Message: That the problem with the post morts y'all are talking about is the format of the meeting... A session that covers what went wrong. Post morts can be of value--even when everything goes right on the air (and that is all we care about). Isn't it nice to hear from the director, producer, editor, reporter, truck op etc and sort out what can be done better? I find it helpful when done properly. Now that is a rub I know, because 95% of the time, its not done correctly, and becomes a b*tch session, and finger pointing. One technique I take is to try an take control of the meeting--don't let the ND or deuce run it. Let them say there was a bad chyron. OK...you are the producer, where did it come from. Ask the chyron op/AP/writer wher ethe info came from and work back through the process--find a solution, not a place to afix blame.
