In Reply To: I have nearly 20 years in the business. I've seen many News Directors come and go. I've never worked for him or with him. I've met him. You guys are newspeople. In my orignal posting, I asked if he was the same guy that was in Clio, Michigan. I met a GM several years ago from WEYI. His name was Eric Land. I simply wanted to know if he was the same one. If so, first impressions mean a lot. The group I was with didn't seem too impressed with him. No one has answered my question. My second point, when the first thing that comes to an employee's mind about their boss is the fact that he brings coffee to breaking news events and is a hands-on GM, that tells me he has a great deal of time on his hands and his News Director is not in complete control of his operation. I've worked with some very 'nice' GMs and News Directors. They're nice...but not effective. I'm not saying people have to be assholes. I've worked with some great News Directors (Detroit is no different, there are a dumb asses that come through here), but, if you have a good News Director, you remember them for improving your writing, story development, navigating the news operation, how they handle problems...not for bringing you coffee to live shots. I'm sure he means well. People in our newsroom think it's joke what was written--defending a GM because he brings you coffee??? When your ratings start sucking, you'll think differently. By the way, no one's mentioned how good is his coffee? Detroiters want to know.
Message: This is the same Eric Land who was GM at WEYI in Clio many years ago.
