In Reply To: Many GM's and ND's know they can treat people inhumanely becaue there are to many TV people out there who are willing to look the other way. There are too many people who are willing to screw their co-worker in hopes that it will help their own carreer. If you speak to an attorney or EEOC about harassment and you say you are in TV, they say, "oh TV is different than other occupations, we can't help you." I beleive there are times when people may lack talent or need to be more committed, but I also beleive, there are more times when a nasty ND or GM have a God complex. I have seen top rated, talented hardworking, kind people screwed because a ND or GM had some kind of vendetta against them. On more than one occasion, I have seen mean spirited people intentionally lie about and bully co-workers in an effort to advance their own carreers. People lives can be destroyed when this type of behavior is embraced, allowed and encouraged by ND's and GM's. I have seen GM's and ND's lie and cheat. I have seen these same people make allowances for certain employees and then nit pick others. People who say "grow up," have obviously not been the target of these bullies. I see law suits encouraged on this website. Please remember, the U.S. does not have laws to protect people from harassment unless you are in a protected class. Some ND's are just mean, stupid people who have such inflated ego's that bullying is their only way of making themselves feel powerful. They can't spot good talent if their life depended upon it. When you run into someone like that, get the heck out of there because your reputation and mental health are to valuable. Some ND's do not have the ability to be ethical. If you are talented and want to stay in the industry, move on, someone will notice. If they don't perhaps it is time to find another carreer because life is too short
Message: As journalists, isn't it our responsibility to make sure we get the story right? What happens if we don't get all our sources correct? That's right! We set ourselves up for a major lawsuit! Same thing when it comes to work. You just can't say anything bad about someone unless you have your facts straight! It's called SLANDER! Put it in writing, it's called LIBEL! It has been taken to court plenty of times, and most judges have their own interpretation of what constitues the offense. I know you're a hard worker. Everyone else knows you're a head worker. But it only takes one jerk to ruin your rep. Like I said, get some legal advice from a reputable source. Good luck to ya!
