In Reply To: Greetings. Good news: I got my first internship at a local station in Minneapolis. I'm just looking for some tips that will help me avoid common "first-time" mistakes. Your comments are most appriecated. I do have one big question: what do I wear? I'll be out in the field, in the newsroom, editing, etc...do I wear office attire (dress shirts/pants/ties)or day-to-day attire (nice button up, jeans, polo)?? Thanks.
Message: Dress in professional attire for the newsroom. Even if the dress code is relaxed, dress sharp. You'll stand out. But pack for the field. At minimum make sure you have some sneakers and a pair of jeans tucked a way in in a duffle bag in case you're out in the field all day. Plus a power bar or two and a couple of bottles of water. Be professional, be polite, keep the "I can't wait to become an anchor or a reporter or producer" to yourself and listen to those who already are. Seek out a mentor. Someone you connect with and respect. Watch out for letches of either sex. Sadly, there are some who will try and take advantage of you. Minneapolis is a good news town. You have chosen well grasshopper. Good luck to you!
