As a news manager who has had more than 15 years experience hiring people, most stations that are "serious" about a potential employee go through a far more vigorous process than simply calling one former supervisor/colleague. My 2 most recent HR departments went through a rather intensive background check to see if there was ANY problem with potential candidates, a process that sometimes took two weeks. So if you, as you claim, were such a serious candidate the companies either didn't do a thorough enough job checking your background - or did indeed a thorough background check and found things that weren't proper. I can't speak for your voracity, but I can say most companies worth working for these days have very good HR departments that look for good people that will make good longterm employees. What about your freelance potential, why haven't you done anything after all this time? I hope your job search works out, whether it is still in television or another line of work.
