In Reply To: Here??s my dilemma, I??ve been on the beach for two years. I??m a veteran anchor reporter who last worked in a top 30 west coast market. My boss and I no longer work at that station. I don??t want to get into specifics, but basically shortly after starting there I was chewed out by my News Director for a minor offense. On the same day?? my co-anchor also committed the same offense. It??s nothing major and many people are guilty of this everyday. The problem is we were disciplined in vastly different ways. My co-anchor got off scott free and my nd hammered me. When I pointed out the difference in the punishment.. it made things even worse. For over a year my nd never talked to me or looked me in the eye. But he did everything in his power to get me fired. I can??t say how I know, but I do know that he is ripping me to shreds when people call him for a reference on me. And when he doesn??t know the news director he is telling people ??as a former employee of ____I can??t comment on DH..but if I were you, I??d definitely check him out??. In almost two years I have been up for many great gigs, but I am constantly losing out to other candidates. Meanwhile, nobody has called my references. Many of the people on my reference sheet can explain why this man did this to me and why he is so vindictive. Other friends including my lawyer have suggested a cease-and-desist order to stop his hurtful comments and most of all to get me back in the workplace. But one person in the business says...I??m done if I threaten people in television news. This man doesn??t have the best reputation around, so why would you news managers believe him? Why do you weigh so heavily..the comments of just one news director? And why wouldn??t you call the people on my reference sheet to check me out and to check out his claims? Have any of you had this problem and what did you do to get it resolved. Also, has anybody had any luck with a cease-and-desist order? This is a well-known ownership group and they might not be happy to know one of their former managers is giving out bad references. And yes, I know it??s a tough job market but on some of these interviews I have hit the ball out of the park. So something is definitely up. And no, my old news director is not on my reference sheet. Please, serious replies only. Thanks, DH
