it's quite apparent that HowIt is without any scientific literacy. Knows nothing about the topic he spouted off on, and doesn't WANT to understand what the scientific method is.
When I was a science writer, I had a reference volume called "Naturally Occurring Toxicants in Food," from the National Academy of Sciences' Food Safety Committee. It ran over 1200 pages, as I recall. Your reference, Norm, to aflatoxin mold is a valid one, though that mold is an even greater threat on peanuts. Peanuts in the US are screened with an ultraviolet lamp to find traces of the mold, which is thought to be responsible for a much higher than average rate of stomach cancer among some African tribes who eat unavoidably moldy legumes and grains.
You are correct, to my knowledge, in your assertion of the lack of any substantiated evidence of hazards in currently marketed genetically altered foods. And, of course, what these neanderthal critics like HowIt ignore is how genetic engineering will give humankind far greater ability to assure balanced nutrition among people who are suffering malnutrition now around the world. The known benefits FAR outweigh theoretical risks, which can be monitored. |

European countries refuse to allow American GM food..
and why won't the GM food lobby allow labels on US foods so US shoppers can decide?
Anything man touches, be skeptical especially in the US where the dollar is king.
A good reference is to see what progressive countries like Sweden allow.
They put the health of their people above profits.
