Newsmark's living in a fantasy world. NBC 17 gets ZERO respect from NBC. The network refuses to give it the resources it needs to compete with RAL and TVD on an equipment and manpower level. News management at NBC 17 won't rock the boat to get the changes the station needs. They just sit back and collect their fat paychecks and try to intimidate the newsroom into thinking they're working at the best place in the world. |

Let me enlighten those of you who don't work at NBC 17 or used to work there but haven't for awhile. I work there now.
The fact is, the badmouthing is unwarranted, inaccurate and misinformed.
NBC 17 has made slow but steady gains over the last 4-5 years.. NBC has and is continuing to invest in the station slowly but steadily. With the growth in ratings NBC 17 is already one of the most profitable stations NBC owns (in terms of net earnings after expenses--the network bought the station for next to nothing). The product is decent and continuing to evolve. The people are a dedicated, hard-working bunch and some of the best co-workers one could ask for--no primadonnas, no cliques, no attitudes.
Our managers are proving to be some of the most supportive and encouraging I have encountered.
Is it perfect? no. Does it still have long way to go? Yes. But there's the challenge and it is on the right course.... slowly and steadily...(which as the saying goes , sooner or later "wins the race").
Problems?... There are a few. We could use more reporters and photogs. As a result, the work load is high for those of us there now... but so what? This is real life and that's the way it is sometimes. If it gets to a point I can no longer bear the burden, I'll leave.
In the meantime....
The checks are always good and ontime. The benefits are fantastic.... and before some other misinformed soul tries to claim that new employees are outsourced from a temp agency... let me make clear now, that's dated information.. and it's wrong.
Several months ago, after experimenting with outsourcing employees through a temporary agency, NBC reversed course and has now re-integrated those employees back into the company. They are all now NBC employees once again.. receiving the same benefits... as will all future full-time employees
Sound terrible? Of course not. But that's the way it is. Take it from someone who knows.
