In Reply To: I'm not a big Forrest Carr fan. Worked with him in San Antonio...had an ego then too. Overall though, I have to give him credit for being a pretty decent leader. However, how in the world can you fire a guy for trying to protect his employees? WFLA SHOULD have an evac plan for their employees and I applaud Forrest for trying to do the right thing. Dollars to doughnuts that every single station in the state of Oklahoma has emergency plans for their employees in the event of a tonado. (How about ya OK...do you?) Wait till something horrible happens to an WFLA employee because the station wasn't proactive with it's evacuation plan. Then we'll see who gets fired then. The idiot who fired Forrest should be run out of town. A-hole. How in the world did he ever get to the position he's in now is beyond me. You did the right thing Forrest and I know you'll land on your feet. Always have.
Message: No one evacuates during a tornado warning... unless it is to a safe room in their garage/backyard. Unlike hurricanes where people have days/hours to get out of the way... with a tornado you have minutes...not enough time to drive anywhere. That being said, after being a veteran in the OKC market, each station has a plan. That is ....employees are shown into an interior hallway and told to hunker down. I will say all the stations do a good job posting what to do. During my time in Oklahoma we had to institute this plan... meaning anchors tossed to brave weathermen who stayed in the studio while everyone else ran into the hall.
