You had my interest HOWit, till this line:
"Every reporter I talk to is afraid of losing his/her job. No producer will touch it."
That is ridiculous. First of all, I've never heard of reporters or producers in any shop making unilateral decisions. Management is always in on it. So it is very unlikely anyone would be "afraid of losing his/her job" for pitching a story.
Secondly, why would anyone be "afraid to touch it" in any case? Your accusation implies that there is some corporate conspiracy to keep this information from the public.
Doubtful. Really Doubtful.
It's more likely, as others have stated, that this kind of story takes real journalism.
