SPORTS IS ONLY AS VAULABLE TO A STATION AS THOSE WHO PRODUCE AND REPORT MAKE IT. I WORK IN A MAJOR MARKET SPORTS DEPARTMENT AS A SPORTS DIRECTOR AND WE HAVE FOUND NEW WAYS TO MAKE SPORTS MORE VALUABLE. MORE STORIES OF REVELANCE TO A FEMALE PERCENTAGE OF OUR AUDIENCE, TEASING SPORTS STORIES WITHOU USING THE WORD "SPORTS" AND FRAMING A SPORTS STORY TO MAKE IT RELEVANT TO OUR AUDIENCE. THE RESULT? BEING USED IN THE FIRST BLOCK AT 5PM ON A REGULAR BASIS AND GETTING EXTRA TIME AT 6 & 11PM ( SOMETIMES 3:3O ). ITS UP TO SPORTS PEOPLE TO GET OFF THEIR LAZY BUTTS AND BE PROACTIVE. YOU CAN MAKE WHAT YOU DO RELEVANT. YOU JUST HAVE TO SHED THE OLD-STYLE AND COME UP WITH A NEW APPROACH THAT APPEALS TO NEWS PEOPLE WHO WANT EYE-CATCHING AND SENSATIONAL STORIES THAT ARE EASILY TEASABLE. THINK OUT OF THE BOX AND YOU ENJOY YOUR BIG PAYCHECK! |
