In Reply To: in recent years, it was 40+ job postings, sometimes over 50. Recently, it has been low 30s or upper 20s (29 job listings last week) . And most of these were weekend weather/weekday reporter in starter markets. Not much for anyone with experience who wants to move on. On another website we have been discussing this. It seems that with the consolidation of the business that more and more people are staying put rather than risking trying to find a new job. They know their present market...the money is OK...not too many jobs have been listed. Therefore, it makes more sense to stay put. readytoworkknow...you are the first person I have heard from on this topic who has an agent which means there are no 'hidden' jobs out there either. It always seems the agents know about jobs that don't get listed...or are held back. For those looking...it does not look good, especially since many markets are hiring cheap rather than hiring for experience.
Message: Nothing against my agent, but I??m not seeing even those ??hidden?? jobs anymore. Hell, the ones I??m up for now were well known and have been open for a while. This tells me that you??re right on target with your analysis of the market. It??s damn frustrating when you know you can report and anchor rings around these kiddies who are at some of these stations in my hometown. And this is a pretty big market. Any others out there who think this is a slow market. Please, don??t respond if you want to talk about the death of TV News..I??m trying to stay positive. And I have tried other lines of work.
