In Reply To: in recent years, it was 40+ job postings, sometimes over 50. Recently, it has been low 30s or upper 20s (29 job listings last week) . And most of these were weekend weather/weekday reporter in starter markets. Not much for anyone with experience who wants to move on. On another website we have been discussing this. It seems that with the consolidation of the business that more and more people are staying put rather than risking trying to find a new job. They know their present market...the money is OK...not too many jobs have been listed. Therefore, it makes more sense to stay put. readytoworkknow...you are the first person I have heard from on this topic who has an agent which means there are no 'hidden' jobs out there either. It always seems the agents know about jobs that don't get listed...or are held back. For those looking...it does not look good, especially since many markets are hiring cheap rather than hiring for experience.
Message: This has been a slow advertising market overall. Particularly two of TV stations largest categories (Automotive and Fast Food). For alot of stations and groups revenue is down around 2001 levels. As a result stations are not going to invest in high price talent because everyone is buckling down the hatches going into 2006. Which by the way anumber of stations are going to make stand against cable to pay for the signal as well as complete their DTV transition.
