This angst is also heard in the thread about a "tasteless transition" on MSNBC and in past Today show threads.
The Today show is a big offender here.
Everything is "on a lighter note." It gets a little tired after hearing it each morning.. because only a little tiny bit of the show is not "a lighter note," so every time they mention some hard news element, the next segment is automatically "on a lighter note."
Even worse is their attempt to vary this with the oh-so-much-better "on a much lighter note."
Here my shouts of anger, or on some better mornings, on a lighter note, annoyance, and stop the use of this phrase! |
