I started out in Bluefield, WV and WVVA is by far the number one station in the market. The number two station actually has a better on-air product than the number three...but that's because WVNS (the #2) just recently started up about two years or so ago and hasn't been able to pull that many viewers out of their faithful watching habits YET.
The market will be a good stepping stone but I don't recommend signing a contract or staying more than a year. There's only so much "news" you can pull out of your @$$ after that amount of time.
Socially...there's not much going on there either unless you're big on outdoor recreation; and, if so, WV is the place to be.
I'd recommend it as a good place to get started. Go to WVVA or even WVNS. At WVVA, you'll have the luxury of being number one and having all the viewers. But at WVNS, while you might not have many viewers, you'll probably make a better tape than you will at either of the other stations. Good luck. |

Another advantage to the Blueefield station is that by living on the other side of the mountain, you can maintain a home in Virginia.
That way, your parents and friends will think you are still in the real world and you can avoid the stigma of a West Virginia address.
