In Reply To: Absolutely put down the time. This "travelling for work is a privilege" stuff is BS. The station wouldn't be sending you if they weren't getting something out of it, and you're making a sacrifice by going out of town. Every other business pays salaries employees OT when they go out of town. Sorry news managers-- the same rules apply to you too!
Message: ... that we as employees somehow OWE the managers and companies that hire us is A HUGE reason why TV stations continue to walk all over their workforces. Go to Hoovers and take a look at the annual reports of some of the big media companies. Look at the profit margins. Why would you ever think of working for free? NEVER pad your timesheet. But, if you work the time, by all means, get paid for the time. If you are denied the "privilege" of traveling and punished for your honesty, then maybe it's time to think about denying your station the "privilege" of having you as an employee. Until we start standing up for ourselves, we will continue to be underpaid and underappreciated.
