In Reply To: To answer your question - I'm a correspondent for one of the cable news outlets. I've always reported so I have no real assessment as to what my skills would be like behind the desk. I don't want to leave reporting behind - but I do want to develop anchoring skills. How low would you go in this scenario?
Message: Please excuse my poor spelling. I can't get Word to open up on my computer..so spell check is out. Obviously you're a pro..but I don't blame you for checking out other options. Is there anyway you can make a tape where you work now? If not..go somewhere else where you can read some copy and get a co-anchor type of a different sex to chit chat with you on camera. Speaking of sex..you didn't say if yo were male or female or your ethnicity. Let's face it..if you're a female minority..you'll get more looks than a white male. I just think without any anchoring experience unless you're lucky..or just striking on camera....you won't be able to start anchoring weekends in any market under 80..90..100 or so. If this is what you want to do..I say go for it..send out the tapes in boatloads and forget about them. But I think it's tough out there right now. I've been anchoring and reporting for 20 years and the market is slow. I've been on the beach for almost two years. You also might want to check out a similar post on Medialine Open Line. Go to search then "Reporter in top 20 market or anchor" Good Luck
