Anchoring and reporting are two different jobs requiring different skills. Many anchors can and should be able to report but I know few reporters who can pull it off on the anchor desk..unless they have prior experience. You didn??t say what size market you work in right now.
I would go back as far as I could to get a regular gig..preferably weekends in a 120-200 market. Get used to anchoring regular shows..save your show tapes and start sending them out after six months with plans to move close to a year in. Then you??re on your way.
I think it??s hard to cross over from reporter to anchor in a medium to large market unless you??ve done it before.

To answer your question - I'm a correspondent for one of the cable news outlets. I've always reported so I have no real assessment as to what my skills would be like behind the desk. I don't want to leave reporting behind - but I do want to develop anchoring skills. How low would you go in this scenario?
