I'm relatively new to editing on Avid. My last station installed NewsCutter in August and I was recently laid off. I don't know what a fair salary would be for someone as new to Avid as I am - in spite of 15 1/2 years of overall editing experience. I'm looking for any advice. |

What exactly are you looking to do? News? Cable programming? Corporate? Industrial? What?
If you have 15 1/2 years of editing behind you, you already know how to edit. Sounds to me like you just need some reps on the Avid. Once you get your keystrokes down, the rest you've already learned.
I can't speak to what the exact going rate is for an Avid editor in a newsroom. I suppose that really depends upon what market you're in. I can tell you that from a cable network perspective (cutting promos and episodics) the editors on my staff with that many years of experience make between $50-62K a year. My top editor makes $72K. He's got 17 years of linear and nonlinear experience.
Hope that helps.
