In Reply To: sucked. As a tech I found them anti-union, anti- working man. They are a bunch of self important clowns riding the wave set down by us hard working behind the scenes working stiffs. Many of us have been uncermoniously dumped to the side of the road because we made too much money or because we didn't kiss enough ass. I started in 1981, not in the Atlanta hellhole but on the west coast. We started off making nothing, working as part of a family with promisses of things getting better when the "company" does better. Like an idiot I believed their lies. When the company did do better, we were tossed out and replaced with the newest crop of ass licking VJs fresh off the plantation in Atlanta. What Hunter Thompson said about TV News is all so true. "The TV News business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs". CNN presently is and always has been a smelly steaming pile, and I should never have trusted that "cracker" Turners drugged induced visions.
Message: I know what you mean. I always worked in Atlanta, but I went through the union thing. It was really my undoing to a degree. They WERE rabid anti-union and still are I guess. I was never really forgiven for my support of NABET. Later, when I thought about it, I realized that we were trying to convince people that they were blue collar workers when they did not think of themselves as such. So they did not think they needed a union. But CNN's behavior was the worst, and many suffered. That said, they DID finally pay better but again you are correct - they dumped people later when they got old and made too much money. It's a rough business, and CNN was a political place. I saw a lot of good people get chewed up and spit out. Still, as xcnn said, if you were there in the early days as we were you can still take pride in your work. We did build CNN, and CNN has made a big impact on news and media in general. Don't be too bitter. CNN still can do good stuff. But all ex-cnn are in the same boat I think - Ted Turner included. We are on the outside looking in, and that can be a good thing.
