The Today show did a much better job than GMA this morning. Didn't catch Imus, but Matt did a much better job than Charlie Gibson. He knew he had a lot of material to cover and was blitzing through it, true, but at least he let W & B talk, which is more than I can say for Gibson.
Also, Today gave about twice as much time to the interview as GMA. I know Ben Sherwood's been tightening up the format on GMA, but this was one time he needed to be flexible enough to give the extra time.
Gibson needs to learn to SHUT UP. He doesn't know how to do a decent interview. Kept talking so much when he introed W & B, I kept wondering if he was ever going to let them talk. And he asked and answered the first question. Awful.
Sherwood needs to get a good producer on the other end of Gibson's IFB telling him exactly what questions to ask because obviously he can't figure it out himself. It's all about him. And the producer needs to have the authority to say SHUT UP when his questions start running :30-1:00.
I know they probably didn't have Diane do the interview for fear of "conflict of interest" because she worked for Nixon. But it's been long enough that I think it might have been interesting for her to question W & B -- especially since some people considered her Deep Throat at one time. Certainly would have done a better interview than Charlie.

I watched Gibson too; he was about as good as Matt, maybe a touch better.
Imus beat both of the tv guys, though he had 30 minutes to do the interview so he had an advantage.
We'll see what Larry King does with them tonight; they'll have to fill Woodstein with coffee.
