We just got a great new coffee machine in our newsroom, but now we have to pay for it.
Are any other newsrooms in this same situation? What next? Charging for water or for every toilet flush? |

You remind me of a lesson learned at WOKR in Rochester when Tom Gagnon was the GM.
The station was paying about $3000 a year for coffee (instant stuff - but it was free to employees). Tom decided to cut it from the budget.
So one day he just brings in a coin coffee machine and takes the instant coffee away.
Big mistake. Near riots among the staff. Major meetings, grievances, etc. Tom is befuddled, because the new brewed coffee is only ten cents and tastes much better.
Later, we decided it would have been best to leave the two coffees side by side, and then after a period of time, pronounce the brewed coffee the "winner."
