In Reply To: I too am sure ET is proud of what he help build, but like many of us, disappointed in what it has become. Sad to see there wasn't much said about Burt in all this whoopla. Forwithout him, there would be no CNN today, he is the man who saved the place in the 80's. P.S. if anyone has to ask "Burt who" you know nothing about CNN !!!!
Message: is the fact that CNN watchers pretty much forget about the network from 80-90. Until Gulf War I, then CNN became big time. People that have worked there 10 years consider themselves old hands. Yes, Burt is the real hero of CNN. It really could have gone under and nobody could have saved it. All those folks that worked their ass off on Techwood are pretty much forgotten I'm afraid. I have the exact same feelings as imageorthicon, I'm glad I helped build it up but I'm not too happy with what it has become. CNN is like a bell curve, and Gulf War I was the peak. Then, internet - Fox - MSNBC. People have a much bigger choice of news today, and that explains the rise of Fox. With more and more choices, viewers go toward the source that confirms what they already think. The truth falls behind ratings and profit. Even Ted Turner thinks less of CNN. So the CNN story for me is one of pride and sadness. It was once great, but paid crap. Now it pays pretty good, but broadcasts a lot of crap. Well, that's life I guess.
