I agree with both of sagegirl's comments. Rod didn't screw up good things (KTVB and KGW) when he got leadership of them, and that KGW was number one when he arrived in Portland.
I recall KGW's being both good with numbers, and the shop to beat in that market. |

When Gramer arrived approx. 7 years ago, KGW had a 1 1/2 hour evening block that frequently left it in 3rd place -- local news from 5-6:30 and NBC Nightly News airing at 6:30PM. Among other changes, Gramer moved Nightly to 5:30 -- breaking up the evening news shows. That's when ratings really started to climb. It wasn't the only reason but it helped greatly. Yes, Rausch gets some credit but he bailed for Florida before the job was even close to getting done.
