For those of us who've been around long enough to remember -- KGW was NOT #1 when Gramer arrived 7 years ago. KGW was #2 and #3 at the time in early evening newscasts. sagegirl is mistaken. |

KGW didn't move into the #1 spot decisively until 2000/2001. When did Gramer arrive, 1998? True, KGW often won the morning & 11pm and occasionally the 5pm prior to that time, but the late 1990s were really a 3-way fight. About 5 years ago KGW moved ahead & hasn't looked back since.
Credit Rausch for getting the ball rolling for KGW in the 90s, however. Even though he left before they were #1, Rausch strengthened KGW & positioned the station to take over when KATU & KOIN faltered in 2000.
