What's the best way to negotiate a clothing allowance and moving expenses in your contract? It is for a main anchor position at a medium/small market.
I am a woman ... and I hate to admit it ... but I am scared of being to confrontational. How do you get what you want without being a demanding witch? |

No reason to be demanding. Negotiations work best when both sides get something they want. All you have to do is tell them what will make you happy - and don't sign until there is agreement on those things.
Sometimes the station has no budget for some of the things employees want. Look for ways to compromise. A clothing allowance is nice, but it is taxable income to you, so maybe it isn't such a good thing. Moving expenses may be really important - but a station may fear paying expenses and then having you leave for another job. You could offer to repay those expenses if you quit before a year is up.
In every case, if it is important to you, think of ways to make it valuable for them, too.
But the starting point is to ask, are these things available? You may find they are part of a standard offer.
