I'm sick and tired of reading threads from washed up old journalists complaining about young people starting out well. Look, this isn't 1960...young people have more talent these days than young people did 30 or 40 years ago. If this girl got a job in Miami straight out of college...more power to her. It's not like any one of us wouldn't have taken the opportunity. The game has changed folks. You don't have to start in market 200 anymore. So, put more effort into your own work and stop worrying so much about young people in the business. What, are you afraid one will take your job? I'm sure you are. Remember, experienced doesn't mean good. There are plenty of reporters and anchors out there with lots of experience, but still stink. And there are a lot of young people out there kicking ass! |

Young is always inexperienced. The difference is not that young people today are more talented than youth from the past, the difference is viewers have been forced to watch people who aren't ready for a large market and can't do anything about it. It's like you're offering people a cheaper house to live in, or a lower quality car to drive. If that's all there is to buy then people will buy it because they need a house and a car. People are just being offered cheaper goods. And they're "buying" because everyone is offering the same thing. Wait until there's another 9-11 type story where people are really scared and flipping around the remote for the latest information. Watch how, when news really matters, they watch the experienced anchors and reporters who are familiar and polished. All the young, pretty faces won't be of any value at that moment. People will want credibility. Not t and a.
