in this business. It pays a little more than a regular job, but now that I have been out for a year I feel it would be awful to go back. Sure I'd make a little more money, but all those nights, weekends, unpredictable schedule changes disrupting my life all because of a shooting or stand off like OutOutOut said. All those things make the value of those extra dollars less valuable. |

and am still enjoying the realization of how life is lived by those outside of newsrooms. Joined a firm in a related field (corporate communications)...became a partner and officer of the company...enjoy a great living doing challenging work with people who, frankly, are far more emotionally mature than many in newsrooms today...no longer have to contend with living "book to book" and having 24 hours/day monopolized by concerns about, as one poster earlier put it, "some dope with a gun."
Don't get me wrong. TV news provided me with a great living for more than 25 years...and I truly enjoyed it. But, like many others, I outgrew the changes and now realize that (despite what many in the business think) TV news just isn't that important to most everyone else.
