Would it have been okay if the interviewee had said "freakin'" instead of "friggin'?" Or, if the reporter had said it instead of the interviewee? What special inplication have we assigned to the verb to frig? Are reporters and interviewees just trying to stir up trouble, or is the real culprit the indeterminate status of frig and freak? Do any of us fokkers really know what we're doing?! |

They're all "code words" for That Which Must Not Be Said on TV ... and in the context of the story, it was inappropriate to use that SOT.
Pitts could have done another interview or two to get good sound that didn't include "friggin'" or any other borderline language.
The whole thing was really odd.
