I knew Jessica in Philadelphia and do not wish to speak ill of the dead, but the issues in her life seemed to be pretty deep seated, and I doubt seriously they had been resolved at the time of her death. Her insecurities/enormous ego caused friction and resentment by many of her co-workers, which, in turn, came back to complicate her life and career. The cocaine abuse (and I personally witnessed it in social functions) was only a symptom. In those days, a lot of TV people were doing coke, but few took it to the extreme Jessica did by melting down on network TV.
There is no question that Jessica had talent. It is tragic that she never had a chance to bring it to complete fruition.
Were she alive today, though, she would be up against the same barriers that undid her career two decades ago.
If you're going to make it in this business, you better get your head straight.
