Wow..talk about a blast from the past-no pun intended. I opened the Oasis as its first bar manager. I was 22 at the time...it had one bar..the one in the original structure. We were slammed from the day we opened that June. By July 4th, crowds waited an hour for a table (and an hour and a half for their food once they ordered). Owners -Beau Theriot at the time-decided to literally throw five or six decks together so we could have a banner Labor Day crowd. To make a long story short...some little kid took a tumble under one of the rails and fell about 8 feet to the ground below one of the decks. As I picked up the kid I noticed the tip of the deck was secured with 2x6;s NAILED to a tree! No kidding! Sorry to hear about the fire....remembering the good times with the crew that first year takes me back. |

Just checked out the coverage from KVUE. Wow! Can't believe the Oasis had grown to 40 decks. One point of clarification...the Oasis was built and opened in the early '80's by Beau and his partner, Danny. The original structure had been used by LBJ and Sam Rayburn as a poker/hooker get-a-way for their DC cronies. Sorry to see so much destruction, but it's good to see Beau is still affiliated with the Oasis (his Brownstone restaurant in Houston was awesome). Thanks for the space to let me stroll back to the good ole days when Hippie Hollow was still Hippie Hollow.
