Just reading your post makes me sick!
You know what? You're right! |

Look I'm no Bush lover, but the last two hacks who posted are stuck in the 60's or something...we're supposed to be journalists here.
You rattle off allegations (take for example--"draft dodger", which is incidentally the same allegation someone made about Clinton--it's not proven, no one has a "smoking gun" but it must be true, right? Why? Because Bush is an a-hole. And what justification does this hack MOST LIKELY have for there being no proof? Oh a conspiracy theory of course, which no one can prove, but MUST BE TRUE. Why? Because Bush is an a-hole.
This is exactly the type of misplaced zeal that led to the whole CBS Documents fiasco. I used to wonder how high level producers at 60 Minutes could have possibly done something so ROOKIE, so IDIOTIC, so JOURNALISTICALLY SHODDY, as go with untested documents...but I read posters like the last two--who are supposed to be journalists or in the business--and I have my answer. These last two hacks are Mary Mapes and Dan Rather in about ten years...and they'll forcefeed their opinions down viewers throats without even knowing it.
Woodward and Bernstein "brought down Nixon" yes, but they didn't SET OUT TO BRING DOWN NIXON. It began with irregularities that they noticed, and they wanted to find out why.
Today, THE OPPOSITE. Reporters like the last two posters look at President Bush and imagine a big red target on his forehead...THEN THEY SET OUT TO INVESTIGATE...LOOKING FOR A SMOKING GUN TO PROBLEM THAT THEY DON'T SEE YET...BUT THEY'RE SURE THEY'LL FIND. Why? Because Bush is an A-hole. Woodward and Bernstein have railed against this kind of "journalism."
Woodward and Bernstein, if their book is to be believed--and having met the Mr. Woodward, I would tend to believe him--had long discussions with their editors and wouldn't print anything without it being corroborated by more than just Deep Throat...they found several different ways to corroborate allegations, including public record and research...not just he said/she said.
The so-called journalists of today would love to run with just one source with a title--probably "corroborated" by another, with an axe to grind--because what we have today is GOTCHA journalism. Not good journalism that leads to a GOTCHA.
