In Reply To: The Nexstar execs insist the ratings are stable, but there's no way that's true. KTAL, which was already a distant third, has been off the air on two of the major cable systems since the beginning of the year due to a dispute over retransmission fees. Advertisers are spending their money elsewhere. How desperate are they? They're without a weekend anchor, so they had "Anchor Rewind Weekends" during the May book, with former Shreveport TV folks anchoring the Saturday and Sunday shows. This past Sunday, with Julie Coker, was painful. No inflection, stumbling and awkward facial expressions. You have to wonder if they'll be doing news much longer.
Message: I live in the Ark La Tex and agree Nexstar really is doing all it can to get by at KTAL. Nexstar said when it bought KTAL and fired all the on air folks/reporters it was looking for a fresh start. Yea, a fresh start doing the same ol thing, hiring folks not deserving to go on air. The only plus on their side was hiring Todd Warren as Chief Met. Otherwise it's the SOS. I remember before Todd arrived officially, Nexstar brought in one of the retired National Weather Service Mets to do the weather and he was having a very very difficult time reading the prompter. YES a telepromter to do the weather. The Anchor Rewind Weekends were good when they brought the old timers that are out of the biz and worked at the other shreveport stations. And have you noticed how they've decreased their coverage of Southwest arkansas. KTBS and KSLA have picked up the slack in that category. And do they still have a t-town bureau? I know they have offices in the mall BUT never do any newscasts from there.
