In Reply To: Jim Ryan retired in 1993 but didn't tell anyone. He has been phoning in his performance for years. His plea for "passion" in the performance of everyones job on the show except, apparently his, was a joke! He would have a stack of newspapers on the desk in front of him for the entire show and get so absorbed in reading them he would miss cues from the floor manager, from the director in his IFB and even from the producer. He would then look up like a deer in the headlights and have to be told on air what his next lead was. He was old, cranky and, with Gail Y as the EP, manipulative, jealous, and petty. He should have stayed at NBC where he would have made a great anchor/reporter for the news.
Message: ...namely much of the 1990s, Jim Ryan did a good job of corraling an audience for WNYW in the mornings. But age and lack of innovation took its toll on him and the show. It might have been a good idea for him to have called it a day when the millenium arrived. The post-Yankosik EPs have done an awful job, and the talent surrounding Mr. Ryan of late has ranged from the adequate (Jodi, Mike) to the execrable (Price). What bugs me is the ton of personal, catty remarks about the man on this board. What gives?
