I've been in this business a long time, and families really do get in the way of news coverage. No, I don't have any kids, and I'm really not interested in knowing what it's like to have kids. I make damn sure no parent gets a break in my newsroom. If you're a parent, you will automatically work your first Christmas with the company, okay? If I catch you using your kids as an excuse to come in late or leave early, you will make up for it on weekend or nightside duty. If a job applicant has a familay, that's a strike again him or her in my book. I simply do not hire anyone with more than 2 kids. |

For the record, green-eye-geezer, I've been in the business over 20 years, have THREE kids, AND am working this Memorial Day holiday (and I've worked MANY others, some by choice, so my co-workers WITHOUT kids could also enjoy their families).
If you don't hire anyone with more than 2 kids, when do you get this info...during the interview process???? Do you also ask how old your applicants are? what religion they observe?...because I believe it's all discriminatory. Do you fire those in your newsroom who go over the 2 kid limit? What market are you in?
