Message: I've seen both extremes, parents who take the crap schedule so they can be home when their kids get home from school, parents who may have to leave early but come back later to finish their work ... then there are the parents who "just can't" be somewhere because of the kids so "would you mind" doing all the work for them, or "would you mind" changing your plans in your life because the parent has something to do. Heaven forbid that I need to schedule appointment during the workday, the whole newsroom will come crashing down ... but from the moment of conception, "mommie" can have whatever time off she needs. Attitude is the big factor here. I appreciate it when parents realize that they are imposing and try to make up for it or at least say "I'm sorry". I appreciate the parent who comes to me 2 weeks BEFORE and asks to switch on-call weekends because of a kid's big game or scouting trip. It's the parent who's on-call, gets called and says they can't because of the kid's big something or other and you get called in instead because the oncall person is being a parent. It's the parents who feel entitled, because they have procreated, to have everyone else do their work for them, I know parents sacrifice for their kids, and they will tell them how much they had to sacrifice just like all our parents did to us. But will these kids hear about the sacrifices we, the non parents, also had to make for them?
