Actually, I would rather let new parents go home early so I dont have to hear the story about how their idiotic child did something cute.
And keep your kid out of the newsroom. you are an A-HOLE and they are just like you.
We dont care if they live or die... we are just trying to be polite.
There is home and there is work. Keep it that way.

I work with plenty of childless people who also come in late/leave early because of social events, car repairs, classes, appointments, taking care of a sick parent, etc. Does it matter how we use our personal time, as long as it's coming off the books AND it's not abused?
What I have a problem with are my co-workers who put in a NOT so productive day because they're hung over, taking smoke breaks, or talking on the phone/computer because they're making plans for the evening...or better yet, PLANNING THEIR WEDDING!!!!
We probably all have something to complain about....whether we're parents or not. You're right - home is home, and work is work, but it makes for a very sterile environment.
