That's pretty much all you can do. Don't think it's any different in a newspaper office, an accounting firm, your dentist's, or at Burger King. People with children always will get special treatment and priorities above someone childless.

b) it's not changing
I especially love the parents who always want to come in late or leave early to do something with their kids.... and it's almost always approved immediately by the management.
What would the reaction be if a non-parent asked for the same leeway to do something with THEIR friends or family?
