5AM - WJW Won
6AM - WJW Won
NOON - WEWS Won
5PM - WEWS Won
6PM - WEWS Won (by .01 over WKYC)
10PM- WJW
11PM - WKYC Won
NOTES:
WEWS- The have the most to crow about. Oprah (4pm) had a great book that helped propel their 5pm and 6pm. But they also did very well in the mornings. WEWS STUNTS: Their main anchors came in for Sunday 11pm shows to feed off the Desperate Housewives numbers. AND, they had a margianlly accurate promo leading into the book, saying Ted Henry was the only reporter (then changed the promo to say 'anchor) in Rome for the death of the pope. In reality WKYC had a reporter there first.
WJW- American Idol was huge, and they capitalized on it. They didn't have a good book at 5PM or 6PM. The demos may bode well for them. They started a new anchor team in January as Idol premiered. As summer repeats roll in, we'll see how well they retain ratings. WJW STUNTS: Not many to report. Very strong I-Team pieces, lots of Idol tie-ins. BUT--a few odd sweeps story choices; like "Is the government controlling the weather?"
WKYC- Their network fell from 1st to 4th in a year, but they remain competetive at 6pm (virtually tied) and win the 11pm (though FOX wins 'late news'). Morning show took a big dive and their mid-day show draws some of the worst numbers of any station any time of day. They have the most stable product, but could use some spicing. Demos will probably bode well for them. WKYC STUNTS: a few 20-minute commercial free 11pm newscasts.
WOIO- This book could force Raycom to examine whether this whole thing is working. Clear last place showing in the AM, 5pm and 6pm. Their 11pm has benefited from CBS, but cant hold the viewer. Their POP shows "the only late news to show growth year to year". So, they may be able to hang their hat on that. WOIO STUNTS: too many to mention, but a keeper was "Hot Dog Vendor Violations", "Staff Prom Pictures", "19's Best Confrentations!" and "Love Potion".
