In Reply To: Again, the mysterious Marty_Lundy points out a "yawn" post, but can't resist the temptation to post on it. I think this is a very interesting topic. Did the media go too far in their coverage of the new casino? I'll let you debate KFDM, KBMT, KPLC and others --- but here's what we did at KBTV: *Our news director made it very clear we were NOT allowed to stay overnight in the hotel. *We were NOT allowed to take advantage of free services (like the spa treatments, ect) *Yes, we did take advantage of their free satellite service for our live shots. This is the only thing we used from L'auberge. *We were the ONLY station to cover both sides. We talked to religious leaders and gambling addict groups who are NOT happy with this casino. *We were the ONLY station to cover how this would hit Ford Park and other Southeast Texas businesses in the wallet. I just wanted to clear that up. I feel KBTV did a fair job in reporting the pros and cons to the new resort. Have a great day. Good debate. Oh, Marty ---- you mention me in every single post !! Thanks. I only wish you had a book.
Message: Rusty, Media from all over the gulf south took advantage of at least some of those services, including the free rooms. Remember, news managers like to save money. There were many more journalists from out of the area there than were from Beaumont or LC. Rusty, I don't have a problem with you, but get off your high horse. This is a significant story in all of Louisiana. L'Auberge is the last "riverboat casino" that can be built here and they chose to put it in LC. Not New Orleans, but tiny Lake Charles? It is an odd choice. While we're talking about this, major props to the production crew from KPLC that organized the sat services.
