In Reply To: since the dawn of meters a 1/2 decade ago, this has been a very fluid market-- except KEYE has always been the cellar-dweller. When overnights first started, FOX ruled the roost. There was a book when The Simpsons beat all the locals at 6 PM. As time wore on and things settled, FOX-7 faltered, and KXAN & KVUE have been battling for the top spots at 6 & 10. (FOX is hanging on to 2nd in the mornings.) In general KXAN has had the edge at 10 & KVUE held the lead at 6. But it has been close on both sides, AND there has been NO dominance in this market in modern TV history. of late: KXAN had a better MAY 04. in NOV 04 it was KVUE @ 6 & KXAN 10. KVUE had a better FEB 05 KVUE had a better MAY 05. We'll see what November brings. As for disgruntled employees... Except for anchors, no one is under contract at KVUE. IF anyone in the shop is that unhappy, they best know the policy from the very top way down to my level: GET OUT, GO, GOOD LUCK! We DO NOT want unhappy people. NOTHING is keeping anyone from leaving KVUE. If someone would be happier somewhere else, good for them. Truly, if someone wants to go across the street, they can go and we'll wish them all the best. Some have. When some are ready for larger markets, they have made the move. Almost everyone works too hard in this market to be unhappy. But I gotta tell you, I don't think I am dislusional. Our newsroom is not utopia, no newsroom ever is. But it is a good place. Our people work hard. They are dedicated. And that work doesn't go unnoticed or unappreciated. Lead ins, network affilaition, #of live trucks, the most bells and whistles.... NONE of it means anything if good smart hard working people who care aren't behind it. KVUE has those people. ps: I hope Bryon brings back plenty of Free BBQ for the crew on Mon & Thurs, that will keep the staff so happy, ViaCom will start counting it as benefit.
Message: for work WHERE if they want to stay in Austin? You don't get it. Even people who HATE their work environment still have to put beans on the table. But I can tell you of at least one person in KVUE production who was so unhappy that he left without finding another job. That's how much HE hated it there. He had worked at KVUE for 15+ years. I know many folks at KVUE and they all tell me it's never been this bad. So go ahead -- believe what you want to believe. But excuse me if I choose to believe my friends over there. Oh, and about the BBQ segments -it's the freakin' weather segment. Last I checked Edward R. Murrow never delivered the 7 day.
