In Reply To: Braces change your speech for a while until you learn to talk with them on. They're a real pain (literally, they hurt a lot whenever they are tightened and you have to be careful what you eat) and I have noticed that they sort of stretch out your lips so when they take them off and you smile, you see a lot more of your gums than before. Since you're only looking into bottom braces, you should look into those Invisalign. They're like a clear retainer that slowly moves your teeth together over time. They can't be seen at all.
Message: I know an anchor that uses the invisalign. It's just a clear plastic mold of your teeth that you can take off while you're on the air. As long as you wear it the rest of the time I imagine you'd be fine. Ask your orthodontist. The down side, I'm told its expensive.
