In Reply To: I work in a station in a top 50 market where people get promoted from our sister station that would be considered market 200 if it were its own market. So hearing about this is nothing new to me. I have mixed emotions about people making such a big jump in this business--more times than not it doesn't work out because the people are not seasoned enough and emotionally ready to work around people with much more savvy and smarts in bigger markets. Not to sound negative, but let's face it...but the reality is in this day and age if you're a minority and have the talent, you can pretty much write your own ticket.
Message: Let's face it: He's a kid. And the reporter vets who have spent more years on the streets of Chicago than he's been alive will eat his lunch EVERY SINGLE DAY. They'll chuckle when they see him hop out of a truck at a scene. I don't know this because I'm familiar with his work. I know this because I work in a big market and have seen it happen. There is no substitute for experience--especially when you work in market #3.
