people around her probably aren't telling her she looks good... they're probably telling her she looks thin. and for someone with anorexia.. that's like telling them they rule the world. it's hard to understand unless you've suffered from an eating disorder yourself.. but the thinner you are, the more motiviated you are to keep losing weight, the more people tell you you're too skinny... the more you want to lose. for me, it got to the point where my husband seriously could not even look at me from the neck down anymore, let alone touch me.. he said i looked grossly thin.. and it only made me want to be thinner. that's the mindset of someone with an eating disorder.

exactly right. the more people tell you that you are too thin the hungrier you are to be thin.
because it's your identity. it's the thing you can control (even though the reality of it is that you are out of control).
for those who don't understand, imagine if people paid attention to you because you have this fabulous long hair. Pretty hard to cut it, right? or because you work in tv. pretty hard to think about working at a bank, because that high profile job is your identity.
sure it takes a specific personality to fall victim to this mindset but for those who suffer from it, it's a tough mindset to break. And in fact, in the case of anorexia, it becomes a physical issue as well.
