WBTV: 11.1 / 19 WSOC: 6.3 / 11 WCNC: 8.5/ 14 WBTV dropped from it's lead.. and WSOC grew. You decide if it means anything!
Message: WBTV drops from its lead... WSOC grows. It means nothing. What does mean something...for the first time in nearly 20 years, WBTV wins at 11:00. It doesn't matter whether WBTV drops...rises...stays the same, etc., etc. What matters is: they WIN. It doesn't matter if it's by one rating point...or ten rating points: they WIN. It doesn't matter if it's because Bill Walker is leaving or someone new is coming: they WIN. WBTV is now the NUMBER ONE newscast at 11. It's all about WINNING. Don't believe for a second that WCNC wouldn't give up all those highly touted awards it's received if it could get a win somewhere... anywhere...please!! And the fact that WBTV has won for the first time in such a long time, obviously means there are cracks in the armor of WSOC. You can bet the rumblings that are coming from inside WSOC are only going to get louder. The question is...will WBTV be able to exploit this win and turn it into something more? That is going to be a huge challenge. But the time may be ripe, although I wouldn't expect to see anything happen overnight. Nine is still dominant in the morning and evenings, and that probably won't change anytime soon.
