You write control room chaos is an acceptable reason for the audio op to not get a mic check. And you wrote audo ops should get mic checks WHENEVER POSSIBLE. What? The main responsibility of the audio op is, news alert, audio. Plus, if you're going to cut some slack to audio operators, how about considering that talent also have chaos going on around them too sometimes. |

Control room chaos such as: massive changes in the show, live shots that aren't there, technical malfunctions, too much noise from screaming managers, etc... There are dozens of things that happen in control rooms every day that most non-technical staff have no clue about. It is during these times, where the shows are hanging by a thread, that yes, sometimes mics go unchecked. It is during these times that we have to be able to assume that talent is ready to go without our having to coddle them first. Like I said before...I've never started a show without putting on my headsets, regardless of how much chaos is going on around me.
