As a director with 25 years experience, I have never started a show without putting on my headsets. It's part of my job. In fact, I am constantly amazed at how some talent, who are paid quite well, can not perform the simplest task of their job such as putting on a mic. Sure audio ops should get mic checks whenever possible, but sometimes control room chaos prevents that, and it's those times especially when talent should be competent, and reliable enough to at least "get dressed" for the show without having to be babysat. |

You write control room chaos is an acceptable reason for the audio op to not get a mic check. And you wrote audo ops should get mic checks WHENEVER POSSIBLE. What? The main responsibility of the audio op is, news alert, audio. Plus, if you're going to cut some slack to audio operators, how about considering that talent also have chaos going on around them too sometimes.
