But what about the city and the people? Is the market friendly, do the newsies enjoy each other and are most people civil towards each other? Or are they clawing at each other and cutting each other down to get ahead??
I'm in a market where everyone does that and I'd rather not be a part of this market any longer.
Also, how's life outside of work? The pay? What can a reporter expect to make? Which station has the most experienced, talented crew (only so I can get some good feedback and inspiration)
Lastly, which shop is the best to work? There seems to be openings at all the stations. |

Fresno is what YOU make of it. Midwesters might like it here. Eastcoasters maybe not. But it's really hard to generalize. If you like doing stuff outdoors this is a great place. If you're into the cosmopolitan lifestyle, thats not really this city's deal. LA and SF are 4 and 3 hours away. I was born here and have lived in and out of the valley for many years. I keep coming back. Cost of living has always been lower here than in other parts of CA, but it's catching up!
As for TV...30 has the O&O toys and look, but I keep hearing that shop is a bit cold and on edge trying to keep those early evening numbers. Shouldn't that hard with an Oprah lead in! As for 24, they're making some noise with the new ND. Newer graphics, new early anchor teams. Same two at 6 and 11 though. Content on both 30 and 24 are comparable. Neither blows the other away. Oh and those Dopplar wars are here too! Triple and Quadruple dopplar...whatever! As for 47, lots of new younger talent. They work hard too. I guess they're driven pretty hard by management. They seem to be at the major stories in town more than they used to. Clear Channel seems commited to improving that station. 26? Some of the prettiest women reporters in town! As for a shop to work at? Not unless you're looking to grow your skills for little dough and wanting to move on as fast as you can! Pappas is not employee friendly.
My experience is that if you're friendly in the field than most everbody will be the same to you. Again, it starts with you. Sometimes we get in a rush and we can't be as friendly as we'd like but that the biz.
Hope this helps...
