In Reply To: "Etakaram" is missing the point of the post. More Professional? How are they NOT being professional? It doesn't sound like the floor director is TRYING to fall down. As for "JayTV," that person is TRYING not to laugh when the floor director falls. I think the fact that "JayTV" cares enough to ask for tips shows that they ARE professional. Obviously, "JayTV" cares enough about the broadcast to be concerned how laughing might look. That again seems to be indication that "JayTV" IS professional. Sorry about the tangent - I just get tired of seeing replys from 'The Grizzled Gang' and other Hall-Monitor wannabes anytime someone posts a legitimate question. I'm just hoping someday, if I play my cards right and put in enough years, I too can be a 'Grizzled News Veteran' like some of these people. Then, I too can post responses about "being more professional." So "JayTV:" To answer your question, I have three suggestions for avoiding laughing when the floor director falls down. 1. 'Tunnel Vision' - as hard as it may sound, stay focused on the camera and don't notice anything outside its perimeter. That is your best bet. 2. If you have to, pinch yourself under the table. Seriously, it works - I speak from experience. 3. If you luck out, and the floor director falls while you're reading the kicker or a light-hearted story...then just go with it and chuckle a little. The audience will think you have a sense of humor, and 9 times out 10 - that is a good thing. If none of that helps, then my last suggestion is to simply buy the floor director a harness so they don't hurt themselves. Good luck and stay professional!
Message: ESPECIALLY on a morning show?..just about every morning show i've seen in the last.. god knows HOW many years..is more or less formatted for some light stuff..i hope you're not at a station that tries to emphasize hard news in the mornings.. it just don't work, folks..i'd say laugh it up and don't worry about it..
