I think we agree in a sense.
Of course it's the people who lie. They don't even LIE really, they just aren't reliable.
My point is that even if 8 was most watched, the diary would not reflect that.
The ice storm of 1991 proved that. 13 was OFF THE AIR but won the bood that day. People just fill in their favorites.
I know diaries are how this game is played which is why in diary markets your actual coverage on any give single day or show isn't as important as overall image, marketing and reputation. You can't win those in one day not even in a two hour coverage so 8 may have been most watched but won't win.

What you say is correct, but you make two faulty assumptions:
1. You think it is clear that 8 won the coverage, but I don't agree and others here apparently feel the same way, so it's not unanimous. What makes you think the viewers see it your way?
Even your theory that 8 received all of those Price is Right viewers is flawed. If I'm not mistaken, coverage started at 10:00 when Ellen on 13 is the most watched program. The Price is Right does win households at 11:00, but I believe the "View" wins demographicly. All you news people can say that doesnt matter, but in reality, demographics are the only numbers that count. As any station management, would you rather be #1 overall and #2 in demos, or #2 overall and #1 in demos... absolutely no one would choose the former.
2. Do you really think viewers are flipping back and forth to see who has the best coverage and sticking with that? The only thing that might have affected that was the fact that 10 did not start coverage at 10:00 like 8 and 13, so someone looking for coverage on 10 might have tried one of the others and stayed there.
Again, 8 had one shot before the other guys. They did a good job. But to say their coverage was vastly superior to 13 or even 10 because of Curt Smith and 8's talent, that's just crazy. And to say they "won" the coverage but won't win the diaries, that's just as insane.
